Service Description

Admission into this class is at the discretion of the Instructor or Training Director. This class is designed for students who are serious about entering obedience competition and preparing for success in the ring. Because the majority of competition errors stem from inattention or lack of focus, developing sustained attention and engagement between handler and dog is the primary emphasis of this course. The class provides in-depth instruction and repetition of both AKC Beginner Novice and Novice level exercises, helping teams build precision, confidence, and ring-readiness. After completing multiple sessions of this course, students should be prepared to enter AKC Beginner Novice, AKC Novice (Companion Dog – CD), or CDSP Starter Novice competitions. While competition preparation is the focus, non-competitors are welcome if they wish to develop advanced obedience skills and improved handler-dog teamwork. Exercises Covered Include: Heel on leash with halts and turns Figure 8 on leash Stand for Examination (Dog remains standing off leash while the judge examines head, shoulders, and back; handler returns to heel position.) Heel off leash Recall to front with finish on command Sit/Stay – handler retrieves leash from ring gate Focused attention and engagement drills Ring preparation skills and trial readiness strategies This class emphasizes consistency, polish, and teamwork to prepare handlers and dogs to confidently pursue their Companion Dog (CD) title.
